The hiking trails and ski fields are open, so whether you’re enjoying spring skiing, cycling, hiking or golfing you can pack a lot of adventure into one day.
1. Grab breakfast a Fergbaker
Right next door to the famed Fergburger is Fergbaker. The queues are shorter than their burger counterpart, and their pies are delicious! Grab yourself a coffee and Boston Bun to fuel your day.
2. Hit the slopes
If you wait a few weeks for winter to pass, you can get the best of both worlds – snow and sunshine. The ski fields are still open till October so you can by-pass the winter queues and ski in the sun all morning.
3. Cycle the vines
Spend the afternoon cycling around the local wineries soaking up the sun and the pinot. Visit the historic Arrowtown, wobble over swing bridges, and follow the mighty Kawarau River to amazing wineries like Peregrine Wines, Chard Farm, and Gibbston Valley Wines.
4. Go for a hike
Queenstown is all about the great outdoors and its magical scenery. Whatever your fitness level, there is a choice for every level. Located 10 minutes walk from Koura Apartments, Queenstown Hill provides the best ‘time to view’ ratio. This walk can be achieved in 2-3 hours. Take a picnic and soak up the views.
5. Try fly fishing
Spring is the perfect time to explore the numerous lakes and rivers open for fishing around the Queenstown. For short excursions, keen anglers can try their luck at catching brown and rainbow trout or salmon at one of the Wakatipu Basin’s waterways, which include Lake Wakatipu, Lake Johnston, Lake Kirkpatrick, Moke Lake, the Arrow River, and the Kawarau River. Another option is to charter a boat and spend the morning reeling in fish and relaxing on the water.
6. Relax at Onsen Hot Pools
A mere 8 mins drive from Koura Apartments is Onsen Hot Pools. This has to be one of the best ways to wind down after an adventurous weekend. Soak in a cedar hot tub, while looking out over the picturesque Shotover Canyon. Pure heaven!
